SOMATIC MOVEMENT was developed to make inner alignment, a meditative mind, health and bodily freedom easily accessible to everyone.

SOMATIC MOVEMENT encourages people to listen to the messages from within the body and to discover their idiosyncratic movement vocabulary.

SOMATIC MOVEMENT emphasises on the mindful and compassionate perception of bodily processes and movements.

The somatic dialogue, the sensing as question and movement expression as answer enhances self-organisation and development of a person.

By the means of SOMATIC MOVEMENT we encounter the wisdom of the lively experience, which results from an "attention to" instead of "control" or "mastering" of processes of life.

In SOMATIC MOVEMENT we sense our body from the inside with our proprioceptive sense, and we sense our movement from the inside with our kinestetic sense.

SOMATIC MOVEMENT is also guiding us into feeling our old and new emotions and alows for direct expression of these emotions in movement. When we are allowed to feel and express our old stored emotions we do not need to hide and store them anymore in our bodies, we can free ourselfs from those emotions.

SOMATIC MOVEMENT can help to balance the nervesystem and assist in the healing of small or big mental and emotional injuries.

SOMATIC MOVEMENT is a discovery by nature.

Hakomi is a body-centered (somatic) approach. The body is viewed as a “map of the psyche” – a door that can be opened to reveal the entire unconscious belief system of the individual. The body’s habitual patterns can become a powerful access route to deeply held core material.

Current neuroscience research has confirmed the basis for many foundational aspects of the Hakomi Method, including the effectiveness of mindfulness, loving presence, empathic attunement, limbic resonance, and memory reconsolidation.

We develop exquisite sensitivity and attunement, using empathic skills to read and contact subtle, unconscious cues. When integrated into the session with unique Hakomi techniques, it creates a rapid, experiential access route to unconscious core beliefs and implicit memories that invisibly shape our lives and behavior. Once conscious and directly experienced, these are available for memory re- consolidation and transformation, including the healing of attachment issues. This experiential process evokes a powerful “felt sense” for the client, allowing them to take ownership of core patterns as they emerge, and to integrate new options.

This workshop provides an immersive introduction to the Method, this includes lectures from the faculty, experiential exercises, demonstrations, discussion, group process sessions, and Supervision.

Shame is an extraordinary combination of a primary emotion and a state of freeze. It is an embodied belief that "something is wrong with me." Shame, like trauma, puts the body in a freeze state and lowers the ability to think and act clearly. Because shame exists in the body as well as in the mind, it is important that therapists work with shame somatically.

In this workshop, you will explore how to utilize somatic techniques to connect more quickly with the client and forge a strong therapeutic alliance. You will learn how to prevent somatic counter-transference and avoid taking on the client's physical shame patterns.

    You will:

-Focus on using breathing and grounding to resource the client, becoming more aware of your own breathing and expanding it in the process.

-Learn how you can resource yourself so that you don't fall into somatic counter-transference and take on the client's physical shame patterns.

-Explore how to keep your clients more present in the room with you and counter over-verbalization, dissociation, and freezing.

-Learn techniques and theory from Wilhelm Reich (the father of Somatics), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing®), Stephen Porges (Polyvagal Theory), Ron Kurtz (Hakomi), and Eugene Gendlin (Focusing).

There is no prerequisite for this course. It can be taken by itself or as part of a sequence.

    Description

This discussion will revolve around Ulfried's book Body Psychotherapy

This book introduces body psychotherapy as one of the essential approaches in psychotherapy, reflecting the increasing integration of the body into clinical mental health practice.

The book offers an entirely new view on body psychotherapy based upon advanced research on embodiment, memory, emotion regulation, developmental psychology and body communication and an experiential and relational understanding of psychotherapy.

Accordingly, the author grounds the theory of body psychotherapy on the theoretical approach of enactivism, which regards experience as arising from meaningful living interaction with others and their environment.

The book, fortified with clinical examples, shows the distinctiveness of body psychotherapy as compared with a traditional talking therapy approach. It also convincingly demonstrates that each form of psychotherapy should consider body experiences.

This text will be a comprehensive foundation for psychotherapists of every orientation, scholars of the humanities and students and especially those wishing to integrate embodied experience into their understanding of their patients.

Part 1 – Get Inside the Therapist’s Experience Using Somatic Approaches in Trauma Treatment

Part 2 – Implementing Somatic Approaches Within a Treatment Center Setting

This event will include our special Overtime!

Overtime allows attendees to continue to ask questions and invite conversation on the event material, other related inquiries, or cases after the formal event ends.

    Description for Part 1

Trauma work invites both growth and healing for the client but also the healer. Ignite or rekindle your passion as a clinician and assist your clients to better engage in therapy. Getting inside the therapist’s experience using somatic approaches in trauma treatment intertwines an understanding of nervous system regulation and the defense responses resulting from trauma and insecure attachment. By tracking defenses on an embodied level and developing neural connections to resources that allow traumatic material to be processed and resolved, we support the wisdom of the body, mind and spirit as it seeks to re-connect with self and others through emotionally and somatically corrective experiences.

This workshop will focus on integrating Body work modalities such as Craniosacral, Reiki, Feldenkrais, Yoga with cognitive therapies like DBT, ACT, ERP and Trauma Processing Models Comprehensive Resource Model, Somatic Experiencing and EMDR. Participants will engage in somatically-informed skills and experiential tools to explore awareness, focused attention, affect tolerance, and expanding self-image and joy. Step-by-step techniques for expanding interoceptive awareness with ease and somatic techniques to treat trauma will be demonstrated.

The Main Points of This Workshop

    ▪ Attune to self
    ▪ Attune to client’s NS arousal
    ▪ Assist client to experience settling, feel into body
    ▪ Anchor embodied resources
    ▪ Ego State work
    ▪ Pendulate between activation and resource

    Learning Objectives

    Participants will learn:

    1. Develop an internal awareness of the clinician’s own process of nervous system regulation and felt sense of their embodied experience, to be able to attune to the client’s nervous system dysregulation.

    2. Intervene with somatic approaches to reduce dissociation and avoidance during sessions and reliance on harmful coping behaviors.

    3. Facilitate working with and releasing highly charged traumatic material in a way that reinforces the client’s resilience, self-compassion and self-responsibility.

    About the Spotlight Organization

The Organic Intelligence® (OI™) training is characterized by scientific and professional rigor, by contemplative underpinnings and by enjoyment. Through the lens of OI’s Post-Trauma Growth orientation, OI answers the question, “What if people had not been convinced that addressing trauma (including dysfunction, dysregulation, and disembodiment) was the focus of therapy?” OI applies complexity science to clinical and somatic insights, and observes, “Trauma means unintegrated resource.” With this, OI members and their clients come to realize the actual, lived experience of their innate healing nature. A range of educational opportunities are available, for seasoned therapists, coaches or beginners, including the year-long OI Coach Certification program.

Utilize Hakomi principles, e.g. nonviolence in therapy, to create safety for the client

Discover the importance of the exploratory (experimental) attitude as a key component of the Hakomi Method.

Recognize the power of noticing the subtle somatic cues of the body & using this as the basis to build on the therapeutic relationship.

Observe the application of Hakomi skills & principles in the experiential process as a way to access unconscious core material.
