    Our Topic for the Experiential

Continuum Movement®: A moving inquiry into what it means to be a human being.

Continuum Movement is an inquiry into what it means to be a human being, providing a somatic method to explore oneself as an unfolding biological and planetary process. We will use breath, sound, and movement and tune to our inner sensations.

Biology enables us to live on this planet; culture limits how we must live. Each culture shapes the human body according to its assumptions about what a human being is, and what is best for society. The individual can become absorbed in the consensus, and the primal bio-uniqueness of the organism can be lost. A primary value of Continuum Movement is access to the universal processes within. That process is a transcultural, universal movement of fluidity.

Emilie Conrad, founder of Continuum Movement stated:

“Rather than being overwhelmed by our current cultural challenges Continuum Movement accepts them as exciting opportunities to invent ourselves differently, not as bionic-humans but as the exemplars of the courageous and the daring. Let us see these times as seeds for a probable future with the wetness of the stars still gleaming in our eyes and the rush of the seas throbbing in our heart as we dream the future, and it is US."

Central goals of Continuum Movement are the creation of health and wellness, freeing oneself from the cultural and mechanistic constraints of modern society.

    Experiential Flow:

    • Introduce Continuum Movement
    • Introduce 5 Essential Elements
      • Breath
      • Sound – teach 2 breath sounds
      • Movement
      • Sensation – Interoception-Baseline-Open Attention
      • Innovation
    • Open movement dive
    • Sharing, Questions, and Closing

    Learning Objectives

    1. Movement, breath, and sound will be used to awaken our inner sensations. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to demonstrate 2 Continuum Movement® breath/sounds and describe how they changed their awareness of interior sensations.

    2. The participant will be able to demonstrate how to take a baseline of CM practice to calm and regulate their body as well as the other benefits.

    3. The participant will be able to describe what interoception is and be able to give a physical example from their own experience.

    4. The participant will be able to describe by tuning into their body and demonstrating how different breaths can evoke different responses from their body.

    5. The participant will be able to demonstrate fluid wave movement of Continuum Movement® and discuss the sensations in the body from doing this form of movement.

    6. From experiencing the difference between mechanical movement and fluid movement the participant will have a physical understanding of the benefits and the drawbacks of both movement styles.

USABP ON THE MOVE is an opportunity for our community to connect and experience restorative practices while getting exposure to many forms of somatic movement and mindful body-awareness programs.

The root of e-motion is “to move.” The same regions of the brain responsible for movement also carry out our cognitive processes. Our brain evolved from movement and still depends on it day to day. Join us to discover how conscious movement can bring nourishing restoration, playful community connection, and the understanding of how moving helps our thoughts, words, and actions.

Somatic tools may include, among others, breath, movement, self-directed touch, sound vibration, and conscious dialogue.

Research abounds on the powerful brain-changing and overall health benefits of meditation, but there's a dirty little secret that's rarely talked about: meditation doesn't work if you don't actually do it!

For most people it just seems too cumbersome, time-consuming, or esoteric to incorporate in their busy everyday lives. It doesn't have to be!

If you're looking to start or restart a meditation practice that will work for your unique life circumstances and rhythms, this 3-week virtual workshop series will offer you structure, accountability, and practical tips for simple and transformative ways to incorporate meditation and mindfulness into your daily life, no matter how busy you are.

Each class will incorporate a presentation of meditation techniques, tips, and common pitfalls as well as a gentle yoga sequence to prepare the body, and a brief practice of meditation. At the end of the three weeks you'll have experienced a variety of accessible meditation techniques you can apply in your daily life, and you'll have had time to ask questions and get support as you try them out between sessions.

No previous experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga mat and pillows or blankets, and find a quiet place in which to practice. Join a supportive group of fellow meditation enthusiasts and make meditation part of your everyday life!

Cost: $65, or register before 2/5 to save $5

This workshop is also available asynchronously. If you prefer you may attend at your convenience by watching the recordings that are sent out each week. You'll have access to view the recordings for 2 weeks after each session date.

Shame is perhaps the most painful of all emotions. It is at the root of both the inner critic and perfectionism. It binds with other emotions, such as anger and fear, so that is often hard to detect. Also, revealing shame can be in itself shameful. For many clients who don’t get better in therapy, shame — unacknowledged and not worked through — is the primary factor.

In this workshop, you will learn how to help your clients recognize shame, work through it and move on.

        You will learn:

To become more sensitive to the shaming often implicit in the therapy situation and how to counter shame in therapy.

How to help clients separate feelings of shame from other emotions.

Strategies to get through shame defenses of over-verbalization, dissociation and freezing.

The differences between healthy shame and toxic shame.

How to help clients out of the shame morass so they can move their energy powerfully outward rather than turn it against themselves.

Taught by Bret Lyon and Sheila Rubin

        Course Level: Beginning

        Sad? Excited? Anxious? Proud?

As you're preparing for your child to leave home, you may be feeling a whole spectrum of emotions (perhaps all on the same day!).

The empty nest period is typically defined as the time after the final child has left home. But each stage as the nest is emptying has its own challenges.

Whether your first child is leaving home or you're a parent of multiple children who is anticipating another departure, you're not alone.

Support and education can help you navigate this emotionally complex transition with greater grace and ease.

        It's weird

Talk to any parent whose child has left home or is preparing to leave, and you're likely to hear them describe it as a weird time.

The structure of your family as you've known it for 18+ years will completely change overnight, and it can be hard to adjust.

Research has shown that support groups help parents better navigate the complex emotions of the empty nest transition.

In this group, you'll learn tips to prepare for your child's departure and the shift in your family dynamic and self-identity that follows.

Past group participants said that having guided conversations with other parents in the same life stage helped them feel more balanced and prepared for whatever phase of the emptying nest transition they were facing.

        About the group

Each session will incorporate simple movement and mindfulness practices designed to help you connect with your body and better manage complex emotions. I'll offer tips and best practices from the research, and there will be ample time and space for processing and sharing your experience.

Session 1: Your changing relationship with your young adult child

Explore the shifting dynamic between you and your young adult child as they prepare to leave home. Why are they pushing you away in the months before their departure? How should you prepare for the big goodbye? Once they leave, how can you communicate in a way that both shows your love and empowers your child's move towards independence? Explore both the logistics and the deeper feelings behind this evolving relationship.

Session 2: Who am I now? Exploring your evolving self-identity

Anticipating the abrupt shift in day-to-day parenting duties and logistics may have you feeling off kilter. If you'll still have other child(ren) at home it can be strange to be both actively entrenched in daily parenting and also have one or more children away from home. Create space to ponder how your self-identity will be impacted by this transition and what you want to create next in your life on a personal and/or professional level.

Session 3: Friends and partners and exes - oh my!

Whether you're single, partnered, married, or divorced, this transition is bound to impact relationships with the important people in your life. Learn about the common pitfalls that occur in partner relationships after a child leaves home. Explore how to reinvest in friendships that will support this next phase of your life. Create satisfying connections that go beyond child the world of your child.

Session 4: Closure and next steps

Our final session will be a time to address any lingering topics that are present for group members. I'll guide you in intentionally closing the connection of the group in this configuration (though you will be encouraged to stay connected with fellow group members if you so choose). You'll leave with practical tips and techniques you can implement in your daily life to continue to support your unique emptying nest transition process so you can thrive.

Group is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.

        Cost: $240

If the cost is prohibitive, please contact me for sliding scale pricing options: kerry@kerrymaiorca.com

            Reconnect with yourself and others

To live a life of purpose, meaning, and wellbeing, it's essential to have a variety of ways to resource yourself through life's ups and downs.

You may have learned to tune out body sensations like pain or discomfort in order to better function in daily life, but this makes it hard to feel other things on a physical and emotional level too.

How can you feel fully alive and know how to meet your changing needs when you've had to habitually numb yourself just to get by?

If you feel lonely even when surrounded by people, or you're craving friend interactions that go beyond likes, pics, and reels, you're not alone. Authentic connections with others are hard to come by these days.

And it's often even harder to access tools for tapping into your own experience of your body, mind, and emotions in the moment.

Who has the time or patience for that when life is so busy?

This small group experience will give you an opportunity to slow down and experience spaciousness, ease, and rest. You'll practice reconnecting with your body and nervous system while fostering a supportive group connection.

Explore your connection to your self and others with the tools of somatic resourcing.

            About the group

Drawing from yoga, mindfulness, and the principles of somatic therapy, this group will offer you experiential practices of movement, breath, and relaxation designed to resource and rejuvenate.

You'll learn the basics of nervous system states and polyvagal theory to better understand how to self-regulate, whether that means calming or energizing.

With guided experiences of group processing, you will explore your own patterns for how you show up within a group. Discover how first connecting with yourself and your present moment experience can enhance your ability to relate to others from a grounded place.

Each session will incorporate simple movement and mindfulness practices such as gentle yoga and breath techniques, restorative yoga poses, and a mini sound bath experience. These embodied practices are designed to help you connect with your body and better manage your nervous system state. In addition to experiential work, there will be ample time, space, and guidance in each session for processing and sharing your experience within the group.

Group is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.

            Cost: $275

If the cost is prohibitive, please contact me for sliding scale pricing options.
