INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP TYPES

Please read the following descriptions to determine which category is appropriate for you.

    • Somatic Psychologist

      Open to anyone with a doctorate in somatic psychology or who has BOTH a doctorate in psychology AND one of the following: either a certification from a recognized somatic training institute (with approximately 400 hours of training) or training in somatic modalities, accumulating up to 400 hours of training. *Note: You will be asked to submit a photocopy of your license and certificate/degree when you sign up for this membership level. Once this is verified, we can list you in our Find A Therapist section, where prospective clients will be able to find your practice. As a member, you will also be in the private member directory for referrals.

      $199/yr.

    • Somatic Psychotherapist
    • Open to licensed clinicians who have a graduate-level academic degree from a somatic psychology academic program. Open to anyone who has BOTH a license to practice psychotherapy AND one of the following: either a certification from a recognized somatic psychology training institute (minimum of three years in length) or a graduate-level degree from an accredited and recognized somatic psychology program. *Note: You will be asked to submit a photocopy of your license and certificate/degree when you sign up for this membership level. Once this is verified we can list you in our Find A Therapist section where prospective clients will be able to find your practice. As a member you will also be in the private member directory for referrals.

      $199/yr.

    • Somatic Practitioner

    • Open to those who have no academic psychological degrees but have otherwise trained in somatic or body-mind centered approaches such as embodied coaching, body-centered addiction counseling, movement/dance.

      $199/yr. 

      Please submit a photocopy of your somatic training(s). Once verified, you will be included in our find a therapist directory to the publicAs a member you will also be in the private member directory for referrals.

    • Clinical Membership

      Open to those who have a license to practice psychotherapy, but do not have a certification from a recognized somatic psychology training institute or a graduate-level degree from an accredited and recognized somatic psychology program. They may or may not have training in body or touch-centered practices or from the body-movement field. *Note: You will be asked to submit a photocopy of your certificate when you sign up for this membership level. Once credentials are verified we can list you in our Find A Therapist section where prospective clients will be able to find your practice. As a member you will also be in the private member directory for referrals. 

        $199/yr.

    • Associate Member
        Open to those who have not completed a certificate program (minimum of three years in length) from a
        recognized somatic psychology training institute but who have either formal healthcare training, are drug
         and alcohol counselors or are on an associate level for therapists and social workers.

       $150/yr.

    • Somatic Associate Member
      Open to those who have not completed a certificate program (minimum of three years in length) from a recognized somatic psychology training institute but who have otherwise qualified in body or touch-centered practices or trained in the body-movement field. Those in the bodyworker-movement field are facilitators who have an interest in, and have an approach with clients similar to Somatic-Psychotherapists and Somatic Practitioners. Their approach to client care is rooted in: 1) being fully present in the moment, 2) engaging clients experientially, 3) adopting a holistic perspective, 4) fostering a natural propensity toward health, and 5) cultivating meaningful relational connections.

      Body-movement methods may include: Drama Therapy (NADT - National Association of Drama Therapy by RDTs (Registered Drama Therapist), Martial Arts, Yoga Therapy/Yoga/Meditation, Buddhism, ISMETA/Dance Movement professionals, Creative Arts professionals, Music Therapy, Feldenkrais professionals, Rolfing/Structural Integration, Acupuncture/Acupressure, Massage Therapy, Hypnosis and Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy.
       
        $199/yr.

    • Affiliate Member
    • Open to individuals and clinicians who do not qualify for any of the membership categories above but feel an affinity for somatic psychology and body-mind psychotherapy. They want to support the USABP mission and goals and benefit from our educational offerings. As a member you will also be in the private member directory.

      $150/yr.

    •  Student 
    • Open to anyone currently enrolled as a full-time student in any degree-granting university or certification training program. As a member you will also be in the private member directory for networking and informational interviews

      $55/yr.  Student credential submission required.

    • Retiree

        For retired individuals who want to support the USABP mission and goals and benefit from our educational     
        offerings. As a member 
    you will also be in the private member directory for connecting up with members.

    USABP Pioneer AWARD

    Since its inception in 1998, the USABP has made it a priority to honor the people who have made somatic psychology, body psychotherapy, and body/mind practices what they are today: acknowledging our history is extremely important in our identity as an organization.

    At each USABP conference a body psychotherapist has been recognized for their lifetime achievements specifically in the field of body psychotherapy by impacting the field, contributing to the body of knowledge, expanding the audience, mobilizing the community, and support of the field at large.

    USABP offers two research awards at each conference. One for Outstanding Research Advancing the Profession of Somatic Psychology, Somatic Psychotherapy and Other Body-mind practices and another for Outstanding Research Advancing Somatic Psychology, Somatic Psychotherapy and Other Body-mind practices by a Student.
