There is shame that gets put on women simply for being female in a male dominated society. Women are shamed for not fitting an unattainable societal ideal. And women can easily internalize the shame, thinking that they don’t “measure up”. This includes how women feel about their bodies, as well as expectations to smile, or be happy, or not to trigger others with overwhelming feelings. From early childhood, many women are taught to be “other focused” and neglect their own needs and desires.

This workshop is for all therapists and other helping professionals - as well as for women who are on a personal growth path. It will provide techniques and exercises that can counter this subtle shame and very visible shame and restore a woman’s connection with her true self. We will be rewriting the story about what it means to be female in the family or the world. We will be learning concepts and doing journaling and drama therapy exercises to develop a kind, inner coach, counter the shame messages from the past and bring out the hidden parts and integrate them in a positive forward motion. We create a no-mistake zone.

You will learn many ways out of all of the shame binds and into a coherent narrative that puts toxic shame in the past. We are inviting each participant to explore where the evolutionary role of shame can invite her to deeper conversations and to explore what can help her step up into the life she wants. Somatic exercises teach embodied grounding and sensing the body from the inside. When the shame binds release, we can have joy, pleasure and satisfaction in an embodied way.

There is no prerequisite for this course.
