This workshop tells a short story of Collective Creativity (CC) emerging from one of the world’s most innovative and generative artistic partnerships between Anna Halprin and Lawrence Halprin. In learning the history of CC, its inspirations, and various artistic explorations of the Halprins, we learn the ways in which Collective Creativity unleashes the creative power of groups to transform our lives individually and collectively.

During this workshop, we also take a look at different ways Collective Creativity has been practiced at the Tamalpa Institute and in other settings. This workshop is intended to inspire and support you to explore Collective Creativity in your life and work.

About me:

From my first exposure to Collective Creativity in 1981 as a participant in the Search for Living Myths and Rituals through Dance and the Environment and through several years participating in Collective Creativity projects with both Anna and Larry. Collective Creativity has been a passionate focus for me–personally, academically and professionally–ever since. One could say, I am now a Collective Creativity evangelist.

To get the most out of this online class, please prepare a comfortable space to move in with access to your online device and reliable internet service. Also, have art supplies ready at hand for the drawing activity and paper and pen for journaling and creative writing exercises.

Ken Otter, PhD: It was experiencing the environmental work of Anna and Larry Halprin over 40 years ago that moved me to drop everything and immerse myself in the transformative power of the Life/Art Process, first as a student and performer, and then as a teacher. Enacting the Life/Art Process to awaken our inherent belonging and participation to the whole of nature has been an integral part of my life and work ever since.

This class meets ONLINE on Zoom
