USABP On The Move

Somatic movement and mindful body-awareness programs

The root of e-motion is “to move.” The same regions of the brain responsible for movement also carry out our cognitive processes. Our brain evolved from movement and still depends on it day to day. Join us to discover how conscious movement can bring nourishing restoration, playful community connection, and the understanding of how moving helps our thoughts, words, and actions.

Somatic tools may include, among others, breath, movement, self-directed touch, sound vibration, and conscious dialogue.

Cost: Donation. We request that attendees make a donation in support of our programs. USABP is member supported and a contribution based on your resources would be greatly appreciated.

Presented by The International Focusing Institute

    Thursday, May 15, 2025
    9:00 - 11:00am PST
    Location: Online via Zoom

Cost: This live online class is pay-what-you-can. The suggested payment for US residents is $30..

Listening to and understanding another person empathically and experientially means feeling their experiences as if we were that person. Capturing their sensations, emotions and feelings is a basic ingredient for that understanding.

We are beings-in-the-world in relationship with others. How we feel colors our experiences of the social contexts, moments, and places in each situation.

This is where voices, gestures and silences become valuable means both to be aware of how the other person feels, and to express our understanding as companions who listen in an empathic way.

In this webinar, we will explore some ways to connect with our bodily felt senses which guide us to an experiential empathic listening and understanding.

    Salvador Moreno-López

    Psychotherapist, psychotherapists’ trainer, and writer.

Salvador has published several book chapters and articles on Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy, Psychotherapy Supervision, and the Place of the Lived World in Psychotherapy.

His training as a psychotherapist comes from the Person-Centered Approach and from the Philosophy of the Implicit and Focusing. However, he carries out his activity from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The aspects of greatest interest in his work are:

    a) the interaction with an accompanying empathic presence,

    b) ways of following the direction and rhythm of the clients and at the same time helping them to attend to their experiencing,

    c) how to allow himself to be guided by his experiencing to understand clients, and

    d) to understand the place of the Lived World in psychotherapy.

Salvador plans to also offer a TIFI workshop on how to develop experiential empathic listening, inspired by Carl Rogers, Eugene Gendlin, and neuroscience. More details will be shared after the Highlight.

Hakomi is a comprehensive and effective method of psychotherapy based in mindfulness and somatic awareness. Employing a strong experiential orientation, Hakomi is grounded in time-honored principles and the therapeutic embodiment of Loving Presence. Through attuned and mindful exploration of present experience, Hakomi supports the discovery and transformation of the unconsciously held core material that shapes people’s beliefs and behaviors.

The Hakomi Professional Skills Training offers a thorough grounding in the theories and techniques of Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy. This professional program provides students with a deep understanding of Hakomi’s foundational principles and the ability to work within them and with an attitude of Loving Presence.

This training is for both new and established practitioners with a passion and dedication for somatics and mindfulness. In Level 1 of the Professional Skills series, therapists are offered practices that enhance presence and support deep relational attunement. You’ll learn the stages and flow of the Hakomi method with in-depth coverage of Hakomi theory and specific experiential techniques that bring the method to life.

The goals of the Training are to provide students with:

a deep understanding of the principles of the Hakomi Method and the ability to work within them,

an understanding of the essentialness of Loving Presenceand skills and practices to deepen the capacity for relational presence

an understanding of the Hakomi therapeutic process and the ability to use these precisely and appropriately.

Our Level 1 training will be in a hybrid format (10 live-online meetings with a 5-day on the ground intensive in the Portland, Oregon metro area and self-paced homestudy. Brief online video talks and demonstrations are brought to life in our interactive, experiential training weekends.).

    Philosophizing with Gendlin
James G. Hart and Sigridur Thorgeirsdottir in Conversation

James G. Hart was a student at the University of Chicago in the 1960s, where he encountered Eugene Gendlin and his philosophy. He took courses taught by Gene for a couple of years. Sigridur Thorgeirsdottir discovered Gendlin’s philosophy a little over a decade ago. For both philosophers, encountering Gendlin sparked a deep connection—something just "clicked." Their openness to taking a leap into philosophical practice and its underlying process philosophy allowed them to engage with his ideas in a transformative way. Both have drawn inspiration from Gendlin to further develop their own philosophical work, in theory and practice.

    A Focusing Oriented Coaching Model
Focusing Highlights is a series of interactive, online pay-what-you-can classes.

This Highlight explores what a Focusing-Oriented Coaching approach can look like. Many coaches have trained in Focusing but often struggle with therapeutic language and examples that don’t fully align with a coaching framework. By bridging this gap, Rod and Charlotte's approach offers a path for coaches to integrate Focusing into their practice in a way that honors both its depth and the distinct nature of coaching.

Focusing has long found a natural home within the therapeutic profession, given its origins in Eugene Gendlin’s collaboration with Carl Rogers on a landmark study of therapeutic outcomes. Gendlin’s 1996 Focusing-Oriented Therapy (FOT) provided a clear framework for integrating Focusing into professional practice, leading to a thriving international network of FOT practitioners.

Curiously, the modern coaching field emerged largely from the same humanistic psychology movement that Rogers helped shape. His person-centered approach influenced both Gendlin and the foundational principles of coaching. Yet, despite these shared roots, Focusing has remained largely absent from mainstream coaching methodologies, which tend to favor strengths-based approaches and personality assessments over implicit process work.

Intended for coaches, therapists and any others involved in client-facing work. Some experience with Focusing will be helpful though all are welcome to attend.

Rod Francis is a US-based, ICF PCC coach, coach educator, Certified Focusing Professional & Trainer, storyteller and speaker who has led professional coach training programs in Europe and the USA over the past decade and a half. He’s the founder and creator of the ICF- Accredited Emergent Coach Training program where he’s integrated a Focusing-Oriented Coaching approach with Charlotte Howorth. A former professional dancer, performer and entrepreneur, Rod is keenly interested in the integration of ancient wisdom traditions, nature-based practices and cutting-edge science with professional coaching competencies to support human change and the ease of ecological and social suffering.

Charlotte Howorth is an ICF credentialed organizational coach. She is also a psychotherapist in private practice in NYC working with individuals, couples, families and groups. Charlotte has taught the Focusing 2-year certification program for therapists and coaches for the past 12 years and has facilitated Focusing retreats and workshops internationally. She is on the faculty of The Relational Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy program in NYC where she teaches and supervises. She is a Clinical consultant at CHDFS (Center For Human Development and Family Services) in NYC and is also a Certified C-IQ Coach.

Special Workshop: Money and the Force of Life

    Saturday, June 21, 2025 9:30 AM  12:30 PM CT

    Sign up Here

Money seems to make the world go round….it certainly causes us distress, and having it is something thought to be a good thing (is it?). But what is it really? More importantly, how do our body and psyche make sense of the invention of money? Does it understand it as real? I will argue, it doesn’t. Our bodies understand transacting a different “currency”, that of Life force and energy. Though some people say “money is energy”, I will argue that it really isn’t.

In this 3 hour workshop we will consider the origin or money, the gender of money and how we can distinguish it from vitality, and what really helps us know we are alive.

Cost $125. (If you are having difficulty with this amount let us know).

    Payment:

In order to reduce costs we don’t have automated payment. When we get your registration we will send you a request for payment. Or just pay here and come: paypal.me/soullcommunity

    Sensory Awareness Workshop
    Nature and our Nature
    Cortes Island, B.C., Canada June 22-29, 2025

    Living Well In Challenging Times;
    Basking in the Beauty of the World;
    And Becoming More Fully Ourselves

We are naturally born as vital, fully sensory beings. Traumas, tensions, even some education can diminish our vitality, creating unrest and insecurity in our lives. Sensory Awareness – the practice of deeply exploring our sensations, our actions and interactions, through practical sensing experiments – can guide us back to our natural resources and lead us to more authenticity and vitality. Through Sensory Awareness we can recover ways of living more fully in the world, rediscovering the wisdom and interconnection of our whole selves and reclaiming our natural being.

In this workshop, participants will explore their sensations and responses internally and externally, in relationship with others, with nature and with our human nature. These explorations can bring a trust and security that may assist us in finding the ability and pleasure of responding more sensitively and authentically in our lives. As we find our natural vitality we can relate more fully with others, find peace and satisfaction in our selves, and the ability to extend it further into the world.

Time to rest, swim, play, and enjoy beautiful Cortes Island will be an integral part of this workshop.

Tuition: $650 US for the week. Early Bird Discount of $50.00 if payment is made by April 15th.

    Meals and accommodations are extra.

Inexpensive camping & bunking possibilities are available on Judyth’s property. Please ask if you are interested. There are various B&Bs throughout the island. lodging at Hollyhock with full meals, hot tub, etc. may be possible www.hollyhock.ca Cortes Island has become very popular, it is wise to make reservations as soon as you can.

    Sign up Here

Generosity feels so good, yet rarely becomes a solid cornerstone in people’s daily lives. What if generosity isn’t just a virtue, but an actual biological imperative? Come join us together with transpersonal neurobiologist, Mark Brady for a brain-body journey that will explore how our entire being can recover the natural flow of our generous heart – we’re all hard-wired for giving. Through pictures, words, story, and experiential learning, come discover how your neurobiology either regularly amplifies or constrains your deepest altruistic impulses.

These three dynamic 90-minute presentations weave cutting-edge neuroscience with somatic research findings that will help us recognize and release the whole-body patterns that block authentic generosity. Through playful experiences, surprising revelations and captivating insights, we'll explore how subtle shifts in perspective, posture, breath, and awareness can transform our capacity for deep connection and joyful giving.

Mark is generously offering this free program. It is an experience that may forever change how you carry your heart forward into the world. Space is limited so sign up early.

    Somatic resourcing + Process group

    5-week series

Next series begins October 2025 - contact me for more info: kerry@kerrymaiorca.com

    In-person event in Boulder, CO

    Reconnect with yourself and others

To live a life of purpose, meaning, and wellbeing, it's essential to have a variety of ways to resource yourself through life's ups and downs.

You may have learned to tune out body sensations like pain or discomfort in order to better function in daily life, but this makes it hard to feel other things on a physical and emotional level too.

How can you feel fully alive and know how to meet your changing needs when you've had to habitually numb yourself just to get by?

If you feel lonely even when surrounded by people, or you're craving friend interactions that go beyond likes, pics, and reels, you're not alone. Authentic connections with others are hard to come by these days.

And it's often even harder to access tools for tapping into your own experience of your body, mind, and emotions in the moment.

Who has the time or patience for that when life is so busy?

This small group experience will give you an opportunity to slow down and experience spaciousness, ease, and rest. You'll practice reconnecting with your body and nervous system while fostering a supportive group connection.

Explore your connection to your self and others with the tools of somatic resourcing.

    About the group

Drawing from yoga, mindfulness, and the principles of somatic therapy, this group will offer you experiential practices of movement, breath, and relaxation designed to resource and rejuvenate.

You'll learn the basics of nervous system states and polyvagal theory to better understand how to self-regulate, whether that means calming or energizing.

With guided experiences of group processing, you will explore your own patterns for how you show up within a group. Discover how first connecting with yourself and your present moment experience can enhance your ability to relate to others from a grounded place.

Each session will incorporate simple movement and mindfulness practices such as gentle yoga and breath techniques, restorative yoga poses, and a mini sound bath experience. These embodied practices are designed to help you connect with your body and better manage your nervous system state. In addition to experiential work, there will be ample time, space, and guidance in each session for processing and sharing your experience within the group.

Group is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.

    Cost: $275

If the cost is prohibitive, please contact me for sliding scale pricing options.
