NARM Training Institute

The NARM® Training Institute offers online and in-person clinical training for mental health professionals who work with Complex Trauma (C-PTSD).  The NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM®) addresses early trauma - attachment, relational and developmental trauma - by working with unconscious patterns of disconnection that deeply affect our identity, emotions, physiology, behavior and relationships. Integrating a body-centered and psychodynamic approach, within a context of interpersonal neurobiology, and grounded in mindfulness, heartfulness and a non-western orientation to the Self, NARM® offers a comprehensive theoretical and clinical model for the resolution of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

The NARM® Practitioner Training is an advanced clinical training for working with the legacy of complex trauma, including cultural and intergenerational trauma.  Enrollment is open to psychotherapists, counselors, social workers & other mental health professionals who work with trauma. The training consists of four, 4.5-day modules over a one year period.

In the NARM® Practitioner Training you will learn:

• The different skills needed to work with developmental and shock trauma; the pitfalls of working with trauma without recognizing the complex developmental themes running in the background.

• How to address the complex interplay between nervous system dysregulation and identity distortions, such as toxic shame and guilt, low self-esteem, chronic self-judgment, and other psychobiological symptoms.

• How to work moment-by-moment with early adaptive survival styles that, while once life-saving, distort clients’ current life experience.

• When to work ‘bottom-up’, when to work ‘top-down’, and how to work with both simultaneously to meet the special challenges of developmental trauma.

• A fresh clinical approach to strengthening therapeutic attunement and resolving countertransference reactions that disrupt treatment.

• The NARM®Emotional Completion Model: an innovative way of working with affect and emotions in support of psychobiological completion.

• The NARM® Personality Spectrum: a new, coherent theory for the organization of the self and methods for working with clients with personality disruption and disorders.

• A model for understanding and addressing the relationship between unresolved complex trauma and cultural and intergenerational trauma.

• A clinical map for Post-Traumatic Growth: how to support clients with a mindful and progressive process of disidentification from trauma-based disorders of the Self.

“Throughout my career as a trauma therapist I have been consistently curious about “the next best thing” that might help my clients. Each modality that I have been exposed to has given me helpful insights and tools. But nothing has compared to the benefits I have received from my NARM training, both for my clients and my own personal growth. The framework it provides in identifying the survival styles and ways we learned the power of connection or disconnection has been like unearthing this great secret. Applying the NARM model was immediately effective in helping me and my clients recognize and break free of maladaptive patterns and, importantly, recognize why we needed them in the first place. Having learned this I feel compelled to share the healing power of NARM with as many fellow healers as possible. I will always be grateful to Larry and Brad for developing and sharing it with me and so many others.”
