PRENATAL AND PERINATAL SOMATICS INSTITUTE

The Prenatal and Perinatal Somatics Institute offers education on a continuum, from more medical and academic offerings for professionals with Masters and PhD level education, and medical providers to somatic trauma professional training to prevent and treat birth trauma, manual therapy training for pediatric professionals and our graduates from the Integrated Prenatal and Perinatal Dynamics Program, and an advanced professional bodywork training for practitioners wanting to work with adults with earliest trauma.

Prenatal and Perinatal Wellness Toolkit

This certificate program is designed to introduce health providers and behavioral health consultants to recent scientific and evidence-based information that can be shared in Integrated Behavioral Health and Primary Care Behavioral Health settings with the goal of improving client access to perinatal health promotion and wellness practices. The professional certificate program invites you to a deep dive into prenatal and perinatal experiences for the prevention and treatment of earliest trauma, plus understanding of wellness model from behavioral health. This information includes health applications, instruction and interventions that can be taught and implemented during preconception, prenatal, and post-delivery, and neonatal/pediatric heath care office visits. The applications and information are also applicable to other health professional settings. There are 12 modules and five areas of instruction: Adverse Babyhood Experiences, Behavioral Health Education, Early Dynamics and the Roots of Health in the Prenatal and Perinatal Period, Fetal Brain Research and Multicultural Wellness.

Integrated Prenatal and Perinatal Dynamics

A practitioner training program to prevent and treat birth trauma that integrates somatic trauma resolution, midwifery model of care and the baby's experience. This training is for professionals who are interested in working with families who have difficult births, babies and with adults who have prenatal and perinatal trauma patterns. Each module will present the issues and patterns that come from this distinct time in a parent/baby's life: preconception, conception, prenatal experience, birth, and the postnatal period.  There are nine modules, with beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.

Pediatric Bodywork Program

Offering three levels of instruction, the Pediatric Bodywork Program focuses on the practical aspects of handling, examining and treating babies. Level One introduces assessment of the baby from a structural and behavioral perspective, and somatic tools for the practitioner. Level Two offers skills to teach parents to help them know their baby better. Level Three offers skills for treating birth and birth trauma.

Early Family Somatics

This program is for practitioners who have studied how to prevent and heal birth trauma in families and know how to offer manual therapy for babies and their parents. Babies tell their story with their body, cries, facial and hand expressions, gestures and movements. We want to bring the Pediatric Bodywork and Integrated Prenatal and Perinatal Dynamics together and recommend practitioners who have this wholistic, full spectrum capabilities.

Advanced Bodywork for Prenatal and Perinatal Somatics

A nine module, three-level touch training for the advanced trauma professionals working with adults to integrate earliest experiences starting preconception. This bodywork training combines elements of:

• Somatic Trauma Resolution and 5 Categories of Practitioner Skills

• Embryology and Body-Mind Movement

• Energetic Bodywork: Biodynamics and Polarity

• Full Spectrum Touch Skills Combining 5 Kinds of Touch in a Sequence
